How to set up Faronics Cloud Deep Freeze

Faronics Cloud Deep Freeze is a powerful endpoint protection solution that helps IT administrators maintain system integrity by restoring devices to a pristine state upon reboot. This prevents unwanted changes, malware infections, and system misconfigurations.

Setting up Deep Freeze through Faronics Cloud allows for centralised management of multiple devices, making it an ideal solution for schools, businesses, and other multi-user computing environments. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process to install and configure Deep Freeze for optimal protection.

1. Create a Faronics Cloud account

Before you can install Deep Freeze, you need a Faronics Cloud account. If you don’t have one, follow these steps:

  • Visit Faronics Cloud and click Try for 30 days.
  • Enter your details, including name, email, and contact information.
  • Once registered, log in to the Faronics Cloud portal.

2. Set up a policy with Deep Freeze enabled

  • In the cloud portal, navigate to Policies then Add Policy.
  • Select DEEP FREEZE in the left menu, then change Disable to Enable (install and use below settings) in the dropdown.
  • At this point you can either run through all the options in the policy for Deep Freeze, or come back to them later.

3. Add your organisation’s devices

After enabling Deep Freeze in a policy, you need to add the devices you want to protect.

  • Hit the Home button in the top left and click Install Cloud Agent.
  • Download the Faronics Cloud Agent and install it on each endpoint.
  • Once installed, the devices will automatically appear in the cloud portal under your account on the Computers page.

4. Verify and test the setup

After installation, check that Deep Freeze is working correctly.

  • Restart a protected device to ensure changes are reverted.
  • Hover over the Home button in the top left then click DEEP FREEZE DASHBOARD. Scroll to the bottom and check that your devices are frozen.

  • Make any necessary adjustments to policies or update schedules.

5. Manage Deep Freeze remotely

With Faronics Cloud, you can manage Deep Freeze from anywhere.

  • Thaw devices remotely from the Deep Freeze Dashboard to allow software updates or system changes.
  • Schedule maintenance periods in the policy to install updates automatically.
  • Set up alerts by hitting the bell icon in the top right then Settings, so you know if a device is thawed for more than a certain number of hours.
